The Renaissance throwbacks and elegant Gothic architecture of Prague will undoubtedly be first on any traveller’s list when it comes to the Czech Republic – and for good reason. Cobblestone streets, a misty castle district and its iconic statue-lined Charles Bridge are just a few reasons to kick off your trip in the capital. Go in the off-season if you want to avoid the crowds – the city gets millions of visitors each year.
Just don’t stop there: other cities, such as Olomouc, Brno, ?eský Krumlov, Karlovy Vary and Tel?, all have drawing cards of their own. ?eský Krumlov, for instance, is more than 750 years old and is as close to postcard-perfect as it gets – walkable within 30 minutes but bursting with cafes, museums and a UNESCO World Heritage-designated castle.
Czechs are all about living the good life: they drink plenty of pivo (local beer), are connoisseurs of art and culture (it’s the birthplace of the eclectic Bohemian movement), and are renowned for their relaxing thermal mineral spas.
