[22 June 2025] Tensions between the U.S., Israel and Iran are triggering a ripple effect across global air travel. A growing list of airlines — including Delta, Emirates, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Qatar, KLM, and Swiss — have suspended or rerouted flights due to safety concerns and escalating regional instability following the United States' bombing of key nuclear sites in Iran today.

The crisis intensified after Israel shut its airspace to all flights early Sunday (22 June 2025), followed by similar closures by Iran and Iraq. These restrictions are severely impacting routes across the Middle East and forcing carriers worldwide to cancel or reroute flights. At the time of writing:
Travellers are advised to expect major delays, reroutes and/or cancellations on flights across the Middle East region. Airlines are offering rebooking and full refunds in many cases.

Heading to Mecca for Hajj this year? Pack extra water!
Saudi authorities have issued a heat warning ahead of what’s expected to be an extremely hot pilgrimage season. According to Gulf News, temperatures between June 4 and 9 are forecast to soar between 40°C and 47°C (104°F to 116°F).
Add in some dusty conditions that could reduce visibility on highways, and it could become a serious situation. Pilgrims are advised to stay hydrated, stick to shaded areas, and keep an eye on official weather alerts.

Lighting up in public just got slightly more trickier in France, where smoking has traditionally been part of the national culture! New rules ban smoking in outdoor areas where children are likely to be, including parks, gardens, beaches, school grounds, stadiums and bus stops, reports Sortir à Paris.
The fine for ignoring the rule? €135!
And what about the country’s iconic café terraces? These are still fair game for a smoke, at least for now…

A new travel fine to watch out for if you're flying to Turkey: Passengers who unbuckle and stand up before the plane comes to a full stop could face a $70 fine, as per a new policy from the Turkish Civil Aviation Authority.
This applies to all flights arriving in Turkey, according to reports from Euronews, and airlines are now required to make announcements clearly warning passengers of the penalty.
Bottom line? Wait for the seatbelt sign to turn off — your wallet will thank you.
