Travellers are now automatically covered for a majority of leisure sports and activities when they take out travel insurance from Travel Insurance Consultants (TIC).
Previously, if travellers were planning to engage in sporting activities, they first had to be cleared by TIC’s underwriting department.
Now travellers can simply purchase a standard travel insurance policy and snorkel and ski with peace of mind, knowing they’re covered.
The new rule does not, however, mean travellers can climb Everest or tow-in surf at Hawaii’s Pipeline and expect to be covered. TIC does not cover risky sports and adventure activities such as free diving, parachuting, motor racing and tow-in surfing, to name a few.
Travellers also still need sports extension cover if they plan to take part in any red-flagged activities such as certain types of mountaineering, rugby or a professional sport of any kind.
If in doubt about what is/isn’t covered in a travel insurance policy, your Sure Travel agent can give you expert advice.
