New train service from Cuzco’s city centre to Machu Picchu

If hiking’s not for you, Inca Rail is offering a new train route the Peruvian city of Cuzco, to the famous Incan citadel of Machu Picchu.

The time-saving rail line will run in the dry season (from May to December each year), with four morning and three afternoon departures from San Pedro station, in Cuzco’s city centre. Travellers can chose from three ticket categories, ranging from entry-level to luxury.

Cuzco was once the centre of the Incan Empire and is now the starting point for all travellers vying to see the world wonder.

However, up until now, taking the train meant a 30-minute drive to Poroy — and for international travellers who already fly into Peru by way of Lima and then catch another connecting flight to Cuzco, this simplifies the journey.

Pre-existing services offered by Inca Rail (such as the Ollantaytambo station) will continue to run as normal.
