Travelling between Hong Kong and China by land is now quicker and easier following the September launch of the Hong Kong Express Rail Link. It links the city to the rest of Mainland China’s 25 000-kilometre-long national high-speed rail network for the first time.
Also known as the Vibrant Express, the high-speed train operates at a maximum of 200klms per hour, connecting Hong Kong with Guangzhou in just 48 minutes (down from two hours) and Beijing in nine hours (down from 24 hours).
“The launch of the Vibrant Express is an exciting and important development which further strengthens Hong Kong’s renowned status as an international hub for leisure and business travellers,” says Dawn Page, representative of the Hong Kong Tourism Board. “The connection by high speed rail will enable visitors to take advantage of luxury train holidays throughout China, using our city as the starting or finishing point for their holiday.”
Tickets start from HK$274 (R45) to Guangzhou South and HK$1 240 (R2 315) to Beijing.
