Watch as two British Airways pilots, Senior First Officer Andy Fonseca and First Officer Tom Reynolds, team up with a local Durban NGO called Surfers Not Street Children:
The organisation empowers ex-street children and at-risk teens through surfing and mentorship, in Durban, Mozambique and the United Kingdom.
The pilots suited up to ride Durban's golden waves under the guidance of surf instructors S’nenhlanhla “Sne” Makhubu and Sihle Mbuto, who have both thrived in school and new friendships since joining the programme.
Then, Sne and Sihle flew back to the UK to learn to fly a Boeing 787 Dreamliner in a flight simulator at the British Airways Global Learning Academy in London.
British Airways new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flights are the only non-stop links between Europe and Durban.
The aircraft will arrive at King Shaka International in the morning and land back at London Heathrow in the evening.
