Beat jet lag with an app

It’s 03h00 in San Francisco but your toddler’s convinced it’s time to play — the age-old battle of jet lag. Now, thanks to Timeshifter, an app for Android and iOS devices, you can start adjusting to the time zone of your destination faster.

It’s based on the latest research in sleep and circadian neuroscience, and utilises the same technology that elite athletes and astronauts use to perform at their best, app developers say.

Timeshifter allows users to create their own personalised plans based on sleep pattern and travel itinerary, with options to start adjusting to the time zones before you leave (or by taking melatonin to adapt more quickly).

The app was created with Harvard Medical School Associate Professor, Steven Lockley, who specialises in circadian rhythms, sleep and jet lag, and works with clients such as NASA astronauts and Formula 1 drivers, according to Lonely Planet.
