Air Mauritius is working towards daily flights from Cape Town to Mauritius and beyond in 2020, with the launch date and type of aircraft to be finalised in March, says Carla da Silva, Air Mauritius' regional manager for Southern Africa and Latin America.
It will, however, “depend on the support we get from the travel industry,” she explained at a special event in Cape Town, according to reports from eTNW.
At present, the airline’s current twice-weekly A340 flights to Cape Town contributed R200m toward Air Mauritius’s R1bn operation in South Africa, she added.
“We know that Capetonians love to fly direct, so help us so that we can fly directly out of Cape Town on a daily basis. Cape Town remains a very important strategic market for Air Mauritius.”
It’s potentially good news for South African travellers who are already taking advantage of the airline’s free stopovers in Mauritius and its Travel Smart programme, which offers free travel for children, discounts for honeymooners and business-class lounge access.
