7 unbeatable reasons to fly Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways was voted the World’s Best Airline  by travellers across the globe in the 2017 Skytrax Awards, and for seriously good reason. Here are just a few:

Connect to the world

Qatar Airways flies from South Africa to 150 destinations across the globe, all via the airline’s Doha hub. Many connections are seamless, while free city tours and stopover packages entice travellers on longer layovers to explore Doha.

Free Visas

Passengers transiting through Qatar now have access to a free 96-hour transit visa issued on arrival – twice as long as the previous 48-hour transit visa. The visa is issued on arrival and is available to passengers with a minimum layover of five hours at Doha’s Hamad International Airport.

Free hotel stays

If your stopover in Doha is more than eight hours, you may qualify for a night’s complimentary hotel stay with return airport/hotel transfers included. A stopover in Doha can be like a mini holiday within your holiday, as this mom discovered when travelling solo with her young child. (Note: Not all fares are eligible for the free hotel stay – ask your Sure Travel agency for details when you book.) The Millenium hotel, one of several hotels in Doha you can stay at for free

Stay longer for less

The Qatar Stopover Programme enables passengers travelling with Qatar Airways to spend one to four-nights in Doha for less. Stay in luxury hotels, enjoy a desert safari, shopping excursion, museum visit and the lively night lights of Doha as you dine aboard a traditional Arabian dhow, all at discounted rates.

The Stopover Programme offers a few extra perks, too, such as instant booking for hotels airport transfers and tours, early hotel check-in and late check-out and a flexible cancellation policy up to 72 hours prior to arrival. Ask your Sure Travel agent for details.

The airport oasis

If you’re not lucky enough to fly premium class on Qatar Airways and visit the Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Lounge, don’t worry; there’s plenty in store for you at Doha’s Hamad International Airport.

From small touches such as trolleys to push around your hand luggage (it makes a real difference when you’re doing a long haul!) to the children’s playground, art exhibitions, quiet rooms, (paid-for) fitness centre and swimming pool and the plentiful restaurants and shops, this is hands-down one of the world’s best airports. You’re going to want to do make like Tom Hanks in The Terminal and stay for a while.

Revolutionary new business class

Qatar Airways’ new Qsuite product in business class is, according to Forbes magazine, “so good you’ll never need first class”. It really is unlike anything we’ve seen in the skies. For starters, the seats can be configured into double beds for couples travelling together and, thanks to adjustable panels and movable entertainment monitors, some seat foursomes can be transformed into private suites for socialising, dining or working.

The amenity kits are stocked with Castello Monte Vibiano skincare products and The White Company, while there are NFC contactless readers for the techie fans. This allows passengers to set up an in-flight playlist of content using the Qatar Airways app on their smartphone before their flight and then just tap it on the reader to transfer it onto the suite’s entertainment system.
