WHAT TO BRING ALONG?

• Clothes and a spare set of undies … just in case the lions frighten you!
• It is a good idea to pack a pair of long trousers for the evenings as well as a warm jacket, scarf and/or beanie for nippy evenings and the early morning and late afternoon game drives.  It is generally warm enough during the day for shorts.
• Also pack a swimming costume as there may be a place to swim along the way.
• The meals are generous, however, feel free to pack snacks and of course, your choice of drinks and beverages.  Pack plenty of water and ice if you have a ‘heavy hand’ (just kidding! - There is more than enough available at all our destinations).
• If you have a torch, bring it too.
• Remember your PASSPORT which should be valid for at least 6 months after the date of return.
• Remember to bring your regular medication and an anti-histamine in case of any allergic reaction.  Please ensure that you carry a physical, hard copy of your regular prescription medications with you.
• If your vehicle is financed, you will need a letter of consent from the relevant bank/finance institution, giving permission to take the vehicle across the border.
• If you are a member of a medical aid or older than 70 years of age, please notify them of your proposed trip to Botswana.  In addition, we strongly advise you to purchase additional travel insurance - your preferred Sure Travel Agency can assist you in this regard.

OUR ACCOMMODATION:

• Most nights we will be camping – correction, ‘glamping’.  The tented camps are well established and of good quality – you’ll sleep on a proper bed with a duvet.  Towels are also provided.  You simply move in and relax as everything will be pre-arranged.  There are hot showers and toilette facilities are also clean and practical – your dignity will not be compromised, but please bear in mind, we are in remote areas in the bush.

WHAT IF I DON’T OWN A 4X4?

• As long as you own a reliable vehicle with sufficient ground clearance space, you are ‘good to go’.  The team is also constantly available to assist - it is, after all, part of the excitement!
• If you can, have a sturdy and solid tow-bar fitted, so if you do get stuck, we will be able to tow you out.  The ‘Leef jou Reis’ vehicle is fully equipped and able to get you through any potentially difficult situation.  Please contact us directly should you have any concerns.
• Please remember, you will be travelling from camp to camp in your own vehicle.  We then use specialised vehicles throughout for game viewing (not your own vehicle).

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

• Although the tour takes place towards the end of winter and the risk of malaria is low, we must insist that you consult your local doctor about the potential risks.
• FNB ATM’s are available to withdraw cash with your visa card – we suggest you withdraw Botswana Pula should you wish to purchase anything locally.
• A full tank of fuel should get you from Maun to Kasane, where you can fill up again.
• Should you wish to extend your stay or take a side trip to e.g. Victoria Falls, we will gladly assist you with the necessary arrangements.  We can also assist with additional accommodation reservations should you wish to break your trip, overnight and/or extend the trip by a couple of days between South Africa and Botswana.
